Oakcroft is a small family-run farm in West Devon dedicated to producing top quality meat in a way that is both welfare friendly and environmentally sensitive. We also produce Baked Goods - traditional style pasties, pies and sausage rolls which are all hand made by us, using our own special recipes and of course containing only our own top quality meats. They are baked on the day of sale, so that you can be assured that you are buying the freshest and tastiest baked goods available! Our animals are farmed and processed in a traditional, non-intensive manner, and are all fed on a natural additive-free diet. We mix the animal feed ourselves from locally grown crops to suit our old fashioned breeds, and do not use growth promoters or routine antibiotics. We believe in farming with slow-grown traditional breeds of animal, because it is better both for the welfare of the animals and unbeatable flavour and succulence. We never buy in meat from other producers – all our meat is from home grown animals. This means that our supply is subject to seasonal change and variety, as a traditionally managed farm should be, and that you can be assured that you are always buying genuine home-grown produce. We have our own on-farm poultry abattoir so the birds have no travel stress, and our larger animals are taken to a small family run abattoir nearby. This is important both for the welfare of the animal and the reduction of the environmental impact by keeping 'food-miles' low. We cut and pack everything in our own on-farm facility and sell it ourselves at local Farmers Markets. This is a purely family-run business, so we can guarantee that when you buy from us you will be speaking to someone who has been directly involved in the process, from birth right through to the end product you see on the stall. |

Higher Hacknell Organic Farm Tim and Jo Budden came to Higher Hacknell in 1985 with a determination to farm, but in a way that worked with nature and not against it.. So, in 1988 we started farming organically, a system which we believe offers many common-sense answers to the problems facing agriculture, the food industry and our environment. Organic standards embrace all aspects of the farming system, most especially animal welfare, wildlife conservation and food safety. We believe that for our future health and well being, it is the way forward.. Producing our own food, vegetables from the garden, cider from the orchard and meat from our own animals happened as a natural part of our farming life. From just feeding ourselves in the beginning, we now deliver our produce to homes nationwide. We hope you'll enjoy our organic meat too! Higher Hacknell, a 300 acre farm nestling in a secluded part of North
Devon between Dartmoor and Exmoor is a true mixed farm with cattle,
sheep, corn and a cider orchard where chickens peck and wander beneath
the trees. We are proud of our South Devon cattle whose gentle nature and rich milk
make them ideal mothers. Calves suckle their milk for around a year and
then graze on the lush clover rich grassland on which no artificial
fertilisers are used.
Jo Budden with her suckler herd of South Devons
On the better land, we grow corn, barley, wheat, oats and beans to feed
the animals in winter. The straw provides comfortable bedding and is
returned to the land in the form of farmyard manure. | |

Redlands Country Pork is run by Glyn & Christina Comont. Our aim is to provide top quality pork products at prices people can afford, whilst giving a fair return on our effort and expertise. Our 110-acre family farm nestles in the red hills of Mid-Devon, at the top of a wildlife-rich valley. We rear pigs, cattle and sheep, the latter two sold through direct orders, the pigs through the market. We farm in a traditional way to maintain a fertile and healthy environment: we do not use pesticides, preferring instead to rely on natural predators to control pests and diseases in our crops. Our sows are reared outdoors, in a traditional rotation of grass, pigs, and corn. When piglets are weaned, they are brought into deep-bedded yards designed for maximum comfort. This gives us very healthy animals which don't require the use of prophylactic drugs. However, occasionally animals fall ill, and we then do whatever is necessary to bring them back to health as quickly as possible. Redlands Country Pork has a unique flavour developed through breeding and very high welfare conditions, which are monitored by Assured British Pigs. We produce up to 15 varieties of high quality, high meat content sausages (including gluten free), pork & apple burgers, joints, including 'bone-in' joints for even better cooking qualities, peppered steaks, diced pork, minced pork, and pork steaks. We also cure our pork to produce gammon, gammon steaks, and bacon, both green and smoked using a traditional Wiltshire cure. We also offer 5, 10, and 20 Kg meat boxes, cut to your requirements. Our products can be obtained from Crediton Farmers Market, or direct from the farm gate. Delivery charge is dependant on distance, or you can collect from the farm or the market. If you have any suggestions on how we could improve our range, please let us know! |
