Hollies Trout Farm is situated in a secluded valley high up in the Blackdown Hills. It is on the edge of Sheldon village near Dunkeswell, halfway between Honiton and Cullompton. Fresh and smoked trout and homemade pate are available at the gate, at farmers markets and at local retail outlets. Trade and retail enquiries are welcome. We also offer a smoking service to both trade customers and members of the public. We also offer fly and coarse angling in our beautiful tranquil valley. The fly-lake is one and a half acres in area and is fed by the headwaters of Sheldon Stream. It is stocked with Rainbows into double figures and also has wild Brown Trout. A large fisherman’s hut enables anglers to shelter from the worst of the weather if required. The coarse lake is three-quarters of an acre and contains a variety of species. The surrounding trees give good shelter from the excesses of the weather. There is easy wheelchair access to both lakes. Spacious well-appointed Bed and Breakfast accommodation is available in the farmhouse where there is one double room and one twin room. Cots and high chairs are available if required. Self-catering accommodation is available in our cosy rustic log cabin. Residents of both types of accommodation qualify for a discount on fishing fees. Conference / meeting facilities are available for up to 30 delegates. Corporate entertainment packages are available. There is ample parking close to both of the lakes and to the accommodation. |

Country Markets are co-operative social enterprises originally established in 1919, and there are now over 400 Country Markets across England, Wales, and the Channel Islands, working in partnership with National Farmers' Retail & Markets Association (FARMA); Alliance for Better Food & Farming (Sustain); Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE); Soil Association; and Co-operatives UK. Markets nationally have been successful in a bid for Lottery funding as part of the ‘Making Local Food Work’ project, and will be working with the Plunkett Foundation, through the Village Retail Services Association (ViRSA). Tiverton and District Country Market (formerly known as Tiverton & District WI Market) is your local one, and is the oldest Country Market in Devon and the seventh oldest in the country, having started on the 20th June, 1940. In the Country Market tradition it provides a retail outlet for high-quality, home-made, home-grown and hand-crafted produce, and has done so without a break for 67 years. Our team (Brenda, Hilary, Chris and Dorothy) sell a varied range of baked goods, savouries, preserves, seasonal fruit and vegetables, unusual plants, and crafts. Bakery items and garden produce are always freshly-cooked or freshly-picked. This summer, from our refreshment stall income, we made a donation towards the more than £20,000 raised for St. Francis Hospital, Zambia, by Dr. James Hall. St. Francis is the largest mission hospital in Zambia, serving 1.1 million people. Products can be ordered, and special dietary requirements catered for. We will produce and deliver a hamper of freshly-prepared items of customer's choice to an address within a 10 mile radius. Treat yourself, a favourite friend or relative, or a student away at university, to some home-made goodies. We are happy to cater for special events, such as weddings or family celebrations. All food producers hold a current Certificate in Food Hygiene. For further information please contact our Manager, Dorothy Anderson, telephone 01884 259971 or visit Country Markets Website |

| December 2007: Redlands Country Pork: Glyn & Christina Comont | ||

| Our aim is to provide top
quality pork products at prices people can afford, whilst giving a fair
return on our effort and expertise. Our 110-acre family farm nestles
in the red hills of Mid-Devon, at the top of a wildlife-rich valley.
We rear pigs, cattle and sheep, the latter two sold through direct orders,
the pigs through the market. We farm in a traditional way to maintain
a fertile and healthy environment: we do not use pesticides, preferring
instead to rely on natural predators to control pests and diseases in our
crops. Our sows are reared outdoors, in a traditional rotation of
grass, pigs, and corn. When piglets are weaned, they are brought into
deep-bedded yards designed for maximum comfort. This gives us very
healthy animals which don't require the use of prophylactic drugs.
However, occasionally animals fall ill, and we then do whatever is necessary
to bring them back to health as quickly as possible.
Redlands Country Pork has a unique flavour developed through breeding and very high welfare conditions, which are monitored by Assured British Pigs. We produce up to 15 varieties of high quality, high meat content sausages (including gluten free), pork & apple burgers, joints, including 'bone-in' joints for even better cooking qualities, peppered steaks, diced pork, minced pork, and pork steaks. We also cure our pork to produce gammon, gammon steaks, and bacon, both green and smoked using a traditional Wiltshire cure. We also offer 5, 10, and 20 Kg meat boxes, cut to your requirements. Our products can be obtained from Crediton Farmers' Market, or direct from the farm gate. Delivery charge is dependant on distance, or you can collect from the farm or the market. If you have any suggestions on how we could improve our range, please let us know! |
